Safe, "SAFER" 240V Mains Supply
When working on any project that connects to the mains, it’s essential to take all necessary precautions to prevent electrocution. In this project, you’re essentially creating an isolation transformer that provides 240V AC while limiting the current to 60mA with a 15-watt transformer.
An isolation transformer ensures that you won’t receive a shock if you touch just one conductor, as there is no connection to ground. However, it’s critical to remember that you should never touch both conductors at the same time, as this can still result in a dangerous shock.
While the output can deliver a painful shock and the voltage can be lethal, the circuit is designed to isolate from the mains. In the event of a short circuit, it won’t blow a fuse, but the transformers may overheat and produce a buzzing sound.
You can use any two identical transformers, and the wattage of either transformer will determine the maximum output wattage. If you choose to use non-identical transformers, the output voltage may vary from the mains voltage, and the wattage will be limited by the smaller transformer.
